DesignJet Overview
This project mainly focuses on enlightening high school students(age 13+) on what design is. We want to help young students develop design thinking by watching fascinating design cases and learning design skills, encouraging them to practice problem-solving abilities, creating values, and inspiring them in the future design industry.
The Context
Amazon collaborated with Adobe Creative Jam for creating and leading a program that will inspire and prepare the next wave of designers for promising careers in tech. Design thinking helps young minds develop a growth mindset in addition to important problem solving, analytical, and spatial thinking skills. Design thinking embodies skills that will be valued in jobs that haven’t been created yet. It can be extremely challenging for high school students to learn about the many career opportunities in the design world.

Playful: Playful experience can help students to engage in the learning process
Easy to navigate: An intuitive navigation enable students to find their interests effectively
• How do high school students interact with technology in their daily life?
• What challenges high school students might face when learning design as a potential career?
Our audience is Junior and Senior high school students, therefore we focused on two questions in order to understand their behaviors, problems and needs.
• A systematic way to understand design disciplines.
• A structural place to learn about hardware skills for different design subjects.
• A fun and easy approach to engage them in the learning process.
From the research, we found out that users need:
User interviews
We interviewed with three junior students and three senior students and the head of high school from The Winchnoon School, to understand how students use the technology and learn about design.
Analyze the current products high school students use
We analyzed current tools and channels high school students use to learn design, and mapped out how much effort for them to find the information as well as engagement level for current products. In the end, we pointed out the opportunities can be applied here.
How high school students discover design
Based on previous research, we created the user journey map to understand high school students’ thoughts, feelings and behaviors from their experiences of learning design.
